This greasy spoon has been given a makeover par excellence by Heston Blumenthal, a chef made famous by his snail porridge and bacon-and-egg ice cream. This is the first of Heston's Little Chefs, and if successful, the format will be rolled out across the country. The interior is USA diner on acid. The food is reportedly fab – and well worth checking out (eg Hereford steak and Abbot Ale pie).

Children will love the sundae with freeze-dried strawberry chips. And it's worth a visit just for the incredible Haagen-Dazs chocolate fondue (sixteen little balls of ice cream are dipped into chocolate sauce, with toppings of biscuit, chocolate flakes and popping candy). Thankfully, there's one of Heston's trademark ingredients that you won't find on the menu – snails!
